What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
Some years ago, on a holiday with my husband, I saw a young homeless girl. I had never before prayed with a stranger on the streets, but I suddenly had a strong compulsion to do exactly that.
Through the years, I remembered her and prayed for her from time to time, and one day, I wove a story around her.
Her name was not Jeannie, and this is not her story, but who knows what might happen when we pray?
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
My main character, Jeannie, was inspired by a young girl I saw begging on a city street. I do not know the girl’s name, nor do I know what happened to her, but years later, I was inspired to write a story about a character in a similar position.
The other characters came about as I started to fill in the blanks of her life. What was her mother like? Why was she on the streets, not home with a caring family? Who might she meet out there?

The dankness from the squalid back alley, where even the sun refused to shine, seeped into Jeannie’s soul making her shudder. It was far worse than she remembered.
Mounds of rotting food spilled out of the bins, and the vile smell of human waste emanated from the dark corners. Fear started to stalk her again, yet once, she’d seen this alley as a refuge, a place of safety. Hiding behind the bins, knowing that our of sight was the best place to be.
A tear ran slowly down her face as she remembered her dad kneeling before her all those years ago. “I don’t hate you, Jeannie, love. But your mum? Well, I just can’t live with her. I’ll be in touch soon, promise.”
Her teddy clutched to her, the scrape of his stubble had lingered on her cheek as she heard the front door slam.
