Japan, 1637. Young Shiro Nakagawa is a teenage boy of the samurai warrior class who lives with his parents and grandmother. They are a family of Christian converts whose idyllic life is about to be forever changed. Hostile toward the “foreign religion,” the new shogun has enacted a ban on the practice of Christianity. When soldiers arrive at his village to burn the church and arrest Christians, Shiro decides he must act to protect the faith and people he loves. This will set into motion a chain of events that will alter the course of his life and the history of the island nation. Based on actual historical events, with a blend of adventure and philosophy, Masaru will entertain, as well as nourish the mind and soul. A must-read for anyone interested in Church history or Japanese culture.
